Katerina Ida FRIEDRICH b1865

Born Dec 1865 at London, St James 1a 375. She was Daughter of Johann Friedrich and Mary Bishop. The death is recorded of a Johann Friedrich aged 39 in Hackney 1b page 273 in March 1873 which is her father's death.

Her mother, Mary Bishop was born in 1845 in Cold Higham, Northamptonshire, England. The only possible UK marriage would be John Charles Friedrick to Mary Bishop in Towcester 3b, page 39 in June Quarter 1865, just in time for the birth in December that year. The marriage at Towcester ties up with Mary's birth at Cold Higham, 2 miles north of Towcester. Her father Thomas Bishop was an agricultural labourer

She married John Stanislaus O'Dea (he was born 12 Aug 1853 in Ardnacrusha, Co Clare) in 1885, Pancras 1b 279

1891 census shows her with her husband and family living in Cakemore, Worcs.

1901 census shows her living at 69 Ravendale Rd, Hackney

John S O'Dea died 22 Jun 1913 age 56 in Watford 3a 775

Marriage of Daniel J Bailey to Katherine E O'Dea at Hendon 3a page 800 in Sept 1917.

There is also a passenger declaration to Canada for a Daniel Bailey in 1921 - his wife is a Katherina Eda Bailey.   He is born Dublin.  He is not accompanied by his wife but says he intends to live in Canada.  He gives a Wembley address for Katherina.

Katherina Eda Bailey travels out in 1922, born London and aged 48.  Going to join husband Mr D Bailey in Toronto.  Her relative in England is her son Michael O'Dea. Katherina seems to give her place of birth as England and her birth date as November 4th 1875 (the 1865 date is the correct one, see 1891 census).

There is an Ocean Arrival form for a Josephine M O'Dea who is travelling in May 1923 to 'Nurse her Mother Catherine E O'Dea' in Toronto.  Her nearest kin in England is Michael O'Dea showing the same address that Katherine Eda gave on her Ocean arrival form.

Henrietta Catherine O'Dea (sic) goes out also in May 1923 giving same details as above.

Katherine Eda Bailey dies of cancer on 4 Apr 1924 Toronto, Ontario.  Her death is registered by her daughter (her father is named as John Frederick born in England).

There's also a marriage for Kathleen Henrietta O'Dea, 24, daughter of John O'Dea and Catharine Frederick who married William John Featherstone, 36, son of Richard Featherstone and Julia Daley on 3 Jan 1924 in Toronto. One of the witnesses was Josephine O'Dea.

There follows a marriage in Ontario in 1926, Julien Daniel Bailey, born Ireland 1887 and a widower marrying a Clara Nash, aged 18. It names his father as Daniel Bailey.

Daniel Julian Bailey

My wife (Katterina's grandaughter) & her sister were intrigued to learn about the Met's report on her. They knew from their father, Henry Patrick, yougest son of John & Katterina, that there was some sort of visit from British Intelligence. The statement about Katterina being a "very fast woman" seems at odds with the recollections of both Henry & also Josephine (aka Aunt Jo) & Kathleen (aka Aunt Dolly). Dolly showed us a photograph of the girls at Wembley with a number of soldiers (they would have been John Fredrick (eldest son of Katterina) & Paul with their friends. Bear in mind that she had two sons & three daughters living with her during WW1. I do have a document (an Ordinary Apprentice's Indenture) dated 27th July 1921, for Henry Patrick being apprenticed into the Merchant Navy)- This is signed by Julian Bailey as surety. He must have done this just before he left for Canada. I think that Jo & Dolly (& Paul who also went to Canada) lost touch with Bailey after Katerrina's death.
